Now fully absorbed into Boydell & Brewer, Tamesis Books was founded in 1963 by J. E. Varey, Emeritus Professor of Spanish at Queen Mary and Westfield College, London, a leading authority on Spanish Golden Age drama. Professor Stephen Hart (now at University College London, previously at the University of Kentucky) is currently General Editor with overall responsibility for the imprint while Professor Alan Deyermond, assisted by Professor Julian Weiss, advises on medieval and Renaissance themes. Professor Varey’s collaborator, Dr Charles Davis, remains in charge of the ground-breaking series on Spanish theatre, known as Fuentes para la Historia del Teatro en España. Further advisers are currently being appointed, to mirror the greatly extended scope of our list (do download the current catalogue). The Textos series continues to publish annotated editions but increasingly our emphasis is on critical studies, covering a wide range of topics, mainly literary and cultural, from medieval to modern times, embracing not only the Iberian Peninsula but also Latin America, not only Spanish but Portuguese and Catalan. We offer authors all the friendliness and personal attention of a small organisation, together with the considerable marketing capabilities and production experience of Boydell & Brewer, one of the few independent academic publishers in the UK. We pride ourselves on our swift response to all queries and aim to give a decision on a manuscript within three months of receiving it for evaluation. Our review procedure is that of all academic presses and manuscripts are selected on the basis of merit. Production standards at Boydell & Brewer are of the highest and Sales and Marketing, with offices in the UK and in our US sister company, and representatives throughout the world, make sure that review copies reach all the relevant journals and that academics in the field are kept constantly up to date with details of new volumes. We attend conferences – to display and sell books but also to monitor areas of current interest and promising papers, and to take advantage of the unequalled opportunities such gatherings present to meet and talk with current and potential authors. Our catalogues are mailed to academics and librarians and our website is regularly updated. Authors return to us because of the level of service offered, and we work hard to maintain this at every stage of the publication process. We are delighted to hear from potential authors and a web proposal form is available at this site, as is the Tamesis style sheet and other documents offering guidance for present or potential authors.
